Moniga: a jewel on Lake Garda

Moniga del Garda is a tourist resort located in the province of Brescia, on the western shore of the lake There is no certainty about the origin of the name: could derive from the Greek deity Diana Munichia, from the Germanic toponym “Morn”, that is exposed in the morning, but also from the Latin “ammonius”.
Of ancient origins - the first findings date back to 2000 BC -, the village currently has just under three thousand residents, but it can become more lively in periods of tourist turnout.

The center of Moniga is characterized by narrow streets with flowered balconies and, from the oldest area, glimpses of the lake can be glimpsed.
In Moniga del Garda it is possible to take splendid walks, walking on the beach or on the lakeside walkway. You can also satisfy your passion for culture by visiting the parish church dedicated to San Martino, built in the fifteenth century and then remodeled several times, but also those of San Michele and San Sivino. Another place of interest to visit is the castle, with stone walls and Ghibelline battlements, from the late Romanesque period and very well preserved.
Those who appreciate wine in Moniga can taste the Chiaretto, a characteristic rosé wine of Valtenesi, while those who love sports can find large sports centers equipped with swimming pools, tennis and football fields and long cycle paths.

In the vicinity of Moniga there are also other fascinating villages, including Manerba del Garda, famous for its fortress overlooking the lake, as well as other places more known for their historical and cultural importance, such as Gardone Riviera, Salò, Desenzano del Garda and Sirmione.

Living on Lake Garda

Living on Lake Garda is very pleasant, thanks also to the special mild climate due to the currents coming from the upper lake and the spectacular plays of reflections and colors due to the proximity to the water, but also to the hills and mountains that surround it. Characterized by cultivations of vines and olive trees despite the proximity of the Alpine ranges, the Benacense area stands out for its unusual landscapes and offers a lot, both from a cultural, sports and food and wine point of view. It is therefore an excellent place for short-term tourism, but also for staying longer.
In fact, the Lake Garda area offers a wide variety of places to visit, with several restaurants, farmhouses and hotels surrounded by nature where you can rest and enjoy the typical local foods and wines.
Living on the lake allows you to walk in the countryside, but thanks to the cycle paths that connect the various villages it is also possible to move easily by bicycle and visit other neighboring places.
The more enterprising people can also practice activities such as sailing, windsurfing, stand-up-puddling or otherwise reach the equipped adventure parks nearby. The lake offers several possibilities to satisfy everyone's needs.
